Signing In

You sign in to Wallfacer with an email address and a password, or with a Google account. Both lead to the same Wallfacer user, and one user can have both.

Email and Password

Sign up with your name, your email address, and a password. Wallfacer emails you a six-digit code to confirm the address is yours.

Log in with the same email and password. If you forget the password, choose Forgot password? on the log-in screen, and Wallfacer emails you a code to set a new one.

Google

The welcome, sign-up, and log-in screens each have a Continue with Google button above the email form, on web, iOS, Android, and desktop.

Sign Up or Log In

  1. Choose Continue with Google. Google's own sign-in page opens in your browser.
  2. Pick your Google account.
  3. You land back in Wallfacer, signed in.

The same button signs you up and logs you in. If no Wallfacer user belongs to your Google account or its email address yet, Wallfacer creates one from the name, email address, and photo Google sends, and gives you a personal account, the same as email sign-up does. After that, the button signs you in to that user.

  • No code step. Google has already verified your email address, so Wallfacer counts it as verified from the first sign-in and never sends you the six-digit code.
  • Any Google account. A Google Workspace account and a personal Gmail account both work. Google must report the email address as verified; Wallfacer refuses a Google account whose address Google has not verified.
  • Identity only. Wallfacer asks Google for the identity scopes openid, email, and profile, and no others. Through them Google sends your name, your email address, whether Google has verified that address, your profile photo, and the ID Google assigns to your account. Wallfacer gets no access to your Gmail, Calendar, Drive, or contacts, and it keeps no Google token. See "Signing In With Google" in the Privacy Policy.
  • Cancelling. If you close Google's page or cancel there, you return to the screen you started from.
  • Changing your Google email. Wallfacer recognizes you by the account ID Google assigns, not by the email address. If you change the address on your Google account, you still sign in to the same Wallfacer user.

Finish sign-in in the browser tab or app where you chose Continue with Google. A return link opened somewhere else cannot complete that sign-in. If the link has expired, start again from the welcome, sign-up, or log-in screen.

If your browser blocks Wallfacer's site storage, the app shows a message before opening Google. Allow site data for Wallfacer and try again, or use your email and password.

Add a Password Later

A user created through Google has no password. To add one, go to Settings > Profile and choose Set a password, or use Forgot password? on the log-in screen with your email address. Wallfacer emails you a code, and you choose the password.

From then on you can log in either way.

When Your Email Already Has a Password

If you choose Continue with Google with the same email address as an existing Wallfacer user, you sign in to that user, with the same accounts and data. Google becomes a second way in. Wallfacer joins the two only when Google reports the address as verified.

What happens to the password depends on whether you ever confirmed that address with Wallfacer:

  • Confirmed. You entered the six-digit code when you signed up. Your password keeps working alongside Google.
  • Never confirmed. Wallfacer removes the password and signs out every session on that user at the moment Google joins it. Anyone can type any address at sign-up, so a password on an unconfirmed address may not be yours. Add a new one afterwards as described in Add a Password Later.
